Ikkaido is a registered charity based in the multi-cultural City of Oxford located in the middle of England. Ikkaido use the iconic nature of martial arts to improve the lives of people who are disabled, disadvantaged, suffering from mental illness, infirmity or living with poverty. Ikkaido engage disadvantaged communities and work with organisations and young people with fewer opportunities to help them tackle their issues and to motivate them towards taking steps towards better health, recovery and independent living. Ikkaido promote healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. Ikkaido create participation and inclusion for people with fewer opportunities in sport and also entrepreneurship, employment, intercultural learning, information and communication technologies (ICT) and social media. Ikkaido partner with schools, colleges and adult day care to create education and employment opportunities for youth with fewer opportunities, especially females, people living with poverty and disabled people. The basic function of Ikkaido is to provide inclusive sport for people who do not normally participate and work with other charities and stakeholders to develop opportunities for disadvantaged people to experience wider cultural and vocational activities. Ikkaido has grown participation for over 7500 disabled and disadvantaged young people and is the largest organisation in the world for martial arts athletes with a disability. Ikkaido operate in the National Disability Sport Centre and Birthplace of the Paralympics, Stoke Mandeville Stadium. Ikkaido are members of the Olympic Federation TAFISA (The Association For International Sport for All). Ikkaido are members of the United Nations Global Compact UK and the Sport and Recreation Alliance (the umbrella group for all major sport organisations in the UK). Ikkaido work with Worcester and Gloucester Universities, the UNESCO Chair of Inclusion, International Council of Sports Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE), International Council of Coaching Excellence (ICCE)
